As many of us are aware, the health demands of Great Britain are quickly outgrowing the infrastructure and services available to cater for them. That coupled with often inappropriate presentations to Emergency Departments in hospitals has meant that the NHS has had to explore different ways of working in order to provide continuity of care for ever-changing health needs.

Southern Hampshire Primary Care Alliance Supports an Urgent Care Centre based in the Emergency Department in Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham. This is currently run by  GPs who provide assessment and management of patients who need to be seen urgently but do not have life-threatening emergencies.

This service is operational between the hours of 8 am and 10 pm.

Please note that if you are unwell and your condition is not urgent, please call your GP or 111 who will direct you appropriately. The UCC is not appropriate for non-urgent treatment that could be managed by your GP nor for routine services such as blood sampling, dressings or suture removal.

This service is currently managed by Lin Barlow and two of the SHPCA’s clinical Directors Dr. Raj Laly and Dr. Tom Bertram.

Urgent Care Centre – Working With Us

With pressure continually mounting in the Emergency Department and a constant flow of primary care patients presenting to QA, we are always seeking GPs who can add to our service in the Urgent Care Centre. If you are a General Practitioner either working on a locum basis, or affiliated with a Surgery, we would be keen to hear from you. We offer a range of sessions which primary care clinicians may book via our staffing website.
